"Watering the camera module"...Galaxy Note 20 Condensation Phenomenon Controversy

노바지 둥둥이 2020. 8. 19. 02:48

Among users who pre-purchased Samsung Electronics' new smartphone, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, the problem of "humidifying camera modules" continues. Reservations for the Note 20 have been delivered to consumers since the 14th when they officially opened. Among IT devices "early adopters" (users who try the latest devices first), criticism continues over the quality control (QC) of Samsung Electronics' Gumi plant.

According to IT communities such as Naver Cafe Samgong Car (Samsung Smartphone Official Cafe) on the 18th, an engineer from Samsung Electronics Service said to a user who requested replacement of Galaxy Note 20 over the weekend, "The waterproof phone has Gore-Tex attached to the air vent hole (air circulation hole) to maintain internal air pressure, and if there is a sudden temperature difference, moisture inside the phone may condense and condensation can occur." Condensation phenomenon refers to the condensation of water vapor and formation of liquid (isles). The move is similar to the phenomenon of car glass turning cloudy due to differences in humidity inside and outside the vehicle.

Some users who visited Samsung Electronics' service center during the Liberation Day holiday (15-17) also expressed their dissatisfaction and demanded an exchange. As of the 18th, Samsung Electronics has received complaints from users and is conducting a reproducibility test at its customer service department. The test results have not come out yet.

Inside and outside Samsung Electronics, analysts say, "Isn't the camera module damp as the new smartphone heats up in a hot and humid environment?" The new smartphone can only be used in real life if it receives an upgrade of more than 10 firmware (improving hardware by updating the software operating system wirelessly). The logic is that heat (water vapor) must have occurred during the update process, and that this steam turned into dew in the hot and humid rainy season weather.

Some early adopters analyzed that "if you take out the SIM card tray, there will be a hole to remove the heat, which will drain the moisture." Some argue that a relatively thick case will lead to condensation. However, there is a possibility that Note 20 Ultra is more vulnerable to moisture discharge than S20 Ultra, which is equipped with large camera modules. This is because the location of the microphone hole (hole) on the back of the smartphone has changed. (See picture below)

Aside from the humidity controversy, criticism over the manufacturing environment of Samsung Electronics' Gumi plant continues to emerge from the IT community. Examples include dust inside the Note 20 Ultra Camera Module (see the picture below), and one of the three camera lenses is skewed to one side.
