Cadillac's first electric car, why do you expect Lyric?

Cadillac has unveiled its first electric car, Lyriq. With its sleek electric SUV, it competed against Mercedes-Benz EQC, Jaguar I-Face and Audi e-Tron.

Cadillac has already announced the release of its electric model. Last year, General Motors (GM) Chairman Mary Vera said, "We will make GM's premium brand Cadillac the most electric car-producing brand in the U. In the future, all GM brands, including Cadillac, plan to release a total of 20 electric vehicles by 2023. It has already put off developing diesel engines and is focusing all of its capabilities on electric powertrain.

It is also noteworthy that the SUV, not a sedan, was used. Cadillac has long formed a lineup around large sedans, but as demand for SUVs has soared recently, it is reorganizing its lineup around SUVs such as XT4, XT5, and Escalade. By combining the concept of electric cars and SUVs, the company aims to increase its share of the global SUV market as well as in North America.

First of all, attractive looks attract attention. Cadillac's unique hard, straight image perfectly melted into the emblem. The so-called "black crystal" grill is filled with LEDs like comb patterns. Both ends of the bumper are planted with vertical headlamps. There are plenty of things to see, such as a slim loop line like a coupe, a side mirror replaced by a camera, and a door handle hidden under the body surface.

 

This appearance is just a preview. The key point is a 33-inch curved display that wraps drivers cozy. Not only inches but also pixels are different. It can implement as many as 1 billion colors. The classic steering wheel, transparent dial lever, and aluminum speaker cover also boast a unique presence.

Unlike internal combustion engines, electric cars have no engine noise, so they have relatively high floor noise or wind noise. Cadillac has developed a new noise cancelling feature to eliminate unpleasant sounds. In addition, the AKG Studio audio system with a total of 19 speakers stands out. Although the indoor space has not been disclosed yet, it is predicted that the mass-production model will be available in 4-5 seats.

Lyric has a third-generation global electric vehicle platform that GM recently announced, and its own 'Ultium Battery'. The platform features outstanding pan-application regardless of the type of vehicle, which GM plans to secure solid market competitiveness in a variety of categories ranging from economy-oriented general electric vehicle models to premium electric vehicles, commercial truck electric vehicles and high-performance performance electric vehicles. It will also lead economies of scale and create new revenue opportunities.

The potential of the Ultium battery is also amazing. It is a product jointly developed with LG Chem and has a differentiated structure that allows large pouch-type cells to be placed horizontally or vertically inside a battery pack. Battery space and layout can be optimized for various models. In addition, cobalt content is reduced by 70% compared to current batteries. With a 100kWh lithium-ion battery, Lyric can run more than 300 miles (about 482km) on a single charge and supports 150kW rapid charging.

It will also aggressively set prices. According to Cadillac, the starting price of Lyric is expected to be less than 60,000 U.S. dollars, which is more reasonable than its competitors such as Tesla Model X, Mercedes-Benz EQC, and Audi e-Tron.
